Shopping Locally in March
Spring is on it’s way, the sun is coming up earlier in the morning, and sticking around later at night. It’s warming up a bit, and soon I will be able to play in the garden. It’s tempting to buy all the amazing garden things from the many catalogs that I have been getting. It’s tempting to shop online to spruce up our home (spring sure brings out those urges).
So, I was thinking once again about shopping locally and supporting our local shops, including the big box shops. Why? Let me share a little story:
The other day I was looking for a very specific type of cereal. Turns out only two places sold it here, but I also found it online for a discount. Since we are trying to save money, I bought six bags of the cereal online and was feeling mighty fine about the $4 I saved. Until my husband and I got chatting about it that is.
Sure it was great to save money on it, and yes we love shopping online, but how sad would it be if our local shops stopped carrying things? Have you noticed how there are fewer and fewer options at stores lately? We can’t help but think that some of it has to do with the fact that people rarely shop in store anymore.
While March isn’t a large shopping month for us I am going to try to resist the temptation to look online first. Besides, I think it will be a lot of fun to get out and get to know more of my city, especially the truly local shops that are unique to our area.
