Star Wars Crochet Kit

The Star Wars Crochet kit is about the cutest thing I have seen in a long time! It comes with everything needed to make a Yoda and a Storm Trooper. The kit has the crochet hook, yarn, and embellishments in addition to a book of patterns to make even more Star Wars amigurumi.

Star Wars Crochet Kit

So, even though I have crocheted before I did have a hard time with the patterns. If you aren’t super familiar with following crochet patterns you will likely have the same issue. It’s not that the crochet itself is hard, it’s just very helpful if you have a working knowledge of the terms.

I started on my Yoda head and undid it a few times because I wasn’t getting the same look as in the book. This isn’t to say the book is bad, in fact, it has a lot of great info and color photos to help you create your Star Wars characters. It’s just if you don’t know what things mean, it can be confusing. So I wouldn’t really say the kit is for beginners, but it could be with a bit of coaching (there are helpful tutorials on YouTube).

Overall though, this kit is darling and I am so excited to make my first amigurumi from it! The fact that it will be YODA just makes it even more awesome!

The Star Wars Crochet kit is perfect for the geek in your life, but if that isn’t your thing I did notice a lot of other really cute crochet kits available too (Disney, Frozen, Peanuts).

I received a kit for my review.

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Night Gift Idea

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #OwnTheGalaxy #CollectiveBias

We are really excited that Guardians of the Galaxy is releasing on DVD on December 9! We can’t wait to #OwnTheGalaxy and were really excited when #CollectiveBias gave us the chance to come up with a fun way to celebrate.

My husband and I love to have movie nights at home so much that we rarely go to the theater. In fact, we haven’t even seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet, so we are REALLY looking forward to the release. To prepare for the night, I wanted to put together a special basket full of our favorite treats, and a few fun Guardians of the Galaxy toys.

Treats for both of us were a must, including popcorn to share. As soon as I found this adorable ceramic popcorn bowl, I knew it would be the “basket” to hold everything. I really wanted to find candy that we not only loved, but that kind of went with the theme of Guardians of the Galaxy. Starburst was obvious, the Red Vines made me think of tree limbs (Groot reference). I’m sure there are more out there too, I’ll have to update the list once we see the movie!

I included popcorn, M&Ms, Good and Plenty, Starburst, and some black licorice Red Vines (those are just for my husband). Tailor the treats to your family favorites. I suggest getting the little size of candy so each person can have their own, instead of the larger bags that you have to share. It makes it easier when everything is on your lap!

As for toys, you don’t spend much time online (or at Salt Lake Comic Con) without getting a feeling for who the popular characters from the movie are! Hello Rocket Raccoon and Groot! Since I love Funko Pop I was thrilled to see this four pack! I only used Rocket Raccoon and Groot in my movie basket, but you could use all four.

I also included a Rocket Raccoon Disney Infinity character. Have you seen these? So much fun! There’s a special $5 Walmart gift card offer when you purchase a Groot, Drax or Rocket Raccoon figure for Disney Infinity 2.0. From 12/7 – 12/13, when you buy one of these Disney Infinity 2.0 figures!  The cashier, at Walmart, will give a $5 Walmart gift card instantly. Perfect for buying some candy or popcorn for your movie night!

The DVD has a lot of special features: Exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack and a 64-page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia, PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal.

We are ready for movie night tomorrow! What about you? Are you excited to see it again, or like us, for the first time?

Salt Lake Comic Con FanX Multipass Giveaway

Salt Lake Comic Con FanX

Geeks rejoice! We have 3 Salt Lake Comic Con FanX multipasses to giveaway! If you have been following the buzz, you know that the FanX event is going to be amazing. Fans of Star Trek the Next Generation will be especially happy since almost the entire cast will be there (can we all cross our fingers that Patrick Stewart will decide to show up?). Walking Dead fans will be happy too, and of course if you enjoyed Chuck and Firefly the news of Adam Baldwin should make you smile. Personally I would love to see the entire Chuck cast there, but that’s just in my geeky dreams.

But there is so much more than just amazing guests. There are a lot of fun things in store, like being able to get in a time machine (OK, it’s the DeLorean, but still), or sitting in the captain’s chair on the Enterprise. Or perhaps you enjoy hanging out with Storm Troopers? There’s a lot of fun to be had at FanX! And let’s not forget the amazing cosplay that takes place too.

Will I see you there? Use the form below to enter for your chance to win one of three multipasses for FanX! Winners will be contacted by email after the giveaway ends. Good luck.
