Have you ever bought something that you thought would be perfect for a specific spot in your home, only to find out that it doesn’t fit? That happened to me, although the item was actually a gift that I asked for as a Christmas present last year. It is a shelf that also has a rod under it, and it said that it was a laundry shelf. So of course, the shelf was to go in the laundry room, to give a bit of space for some fun displays, and to hang clothes on.

Well, imagine our surprise when we finally get around to hanging it up (yes, we are slow like that sometimes). The wall it was meant to go on doesn’t have studs in the right places. The second wall it could go on is full of pipes and electric, so we were concerned. It would also be hard to reach the shelf, since I would have to reach across the washer and dryer. So, the shelf is still sitting there, waiting to go up someplace. Most likely it will make it’s way to the basement (with all the other, “maybe it will work in the next house” items).

The guest room is progressing slowly, and little hiccups like this aren’t helping. Have you done the same thing before?

  1. Ha, I’ve done that so many times! Now, I at least test the purchase out before the 30 day time period runs out :) .

We should compare basements… I have many things like that. I keep them next to all the second hand furniture that I buy with the intention to someday refurbish ;)
