I have always loved to see what can come of using what you already have. Why? It’s a lot more creative, and usually a lot more interesting, than just running out to the store to buy something new. It’s also a great way to save money, and keep things simple.

When we got our new bedroom set recently, the first thing that we did was decide what would get donated from the old set, and what would stay. Two chest of drawers stayed, with the idea of using them for storage in the laundry room. Also, our old mattress ended up staying (we had wanted to donate, but new regulations prohibit that).

Our laundry room is a larger room, but not technically another bedroom. It is the room in our house that seems to be a catch all for all the things that we just don’t know what to do with. It’s been cleaned up, and messed up again, over and over. However, I am in the middle of turning it into a guest room with a total budget investment of $0!

Here is what I have to work with:

  • Queen bed and mattress set.
  • Bedding, two options (not sure which I will use yet).
  • Two chest of drawers.
  • Maps from National Geographic magazine.
  • Various decorations from other areas of the house.
  • Art that I made.
  • And of course, since it is a laundry room, there is the washer and dryer.
  • Also, some very cool bamboo wall decals from The Surface Store.

I am not sure which of the items will stay, and which will go. In fact, I am not 100% certain that we will make it a guest room yet because it does take up so much space for something that really won’t get much use. However, there is something very fun about the idea of decorating another bedroom!! Stay tuned for project photos!

One Response to “Using what you have.”

  1. Hello from one Nest to another! The bamboo decals are fantastic – I feel inspired to find a supplier in the UK who makes something similar, as I would love a decoration like that for our living room. This sounds like a great project overall – looking forward to hearing what you come up with!
