Here is a photo of what our kitchen looks like right now. When we first moved into the house the cabinets were an unattractive oak color, and the counter tops were peeling, bubbling, and out dated. I have said before how tile was a budget choice for us. All in all our kitchen make over only cost around $500, and that included buying some much needed tools.

We also did a Venetian plaster on the walls, which still is my favorite part of what we did. That and the sink, because before it was extremely shallow and stainless steel (with the hard water we have it was impossible to keep it looking nice). As it is now, we both really like it. It’s so much nicer than what we had before.

Of course there are things we want to change. Tile counter tops, as I mentioned before, are not easy to keep clean. I always feel like they are dirty, even after a good scrub down and using the steam cleaner. The grout just traps things like mad, and gets stained easily. It’s also bumpy, which makes it hard for rolling out things like cookie dough (not that I have though, seeing as I always feel like it’s dirty).

The cabinets really need replacing. What you don’t see in the photo is that the bottom cabinets are literally wearing away. We get piles of sawdust on the floor and on the tops of each drawer. They may one day just disappear in a pile of sawdust! I guess it can be expected after 2o something years of wear and tear.

We also have wishes to put hardwood floors on the first floor of the house, which would include the kitchen.

Do you love the kitchen you have? Do you have big plans and wishes for it?
