Here is a fun, and super easy project to create a tropical feeling centerpiece. I made this for an outdoor barbecue we were going to have, but I also like to use them in our beach themed bathroom.

I already had the glasses, shells, and stones on hand and only needed to purchase the floating candles. However, all the times came from the craft store. You could easily find other glass vases and containers that would be interesting at a thrift store. I liked these best because the opening is almost the same size as the floating candle.

simple project

It’s pretty easy, just layer the shells and stones, kind of like you would do when making a parfait! Add water and the floating candles, and your good to go! I have thought of other variations for items that could go in the bottom. Here are some, you would just have to make sure they were water proof!

  • Small fruit.
  • Small Christmas ornaments (heavy enough to sink to the bottom, or fill them with water).
  • Little pumpkins for Halloween (bigger glass container for this one).
  • Rocks that look great wet.
  • Anything decorative that you find at a pet store for fish tanks, and aquarium gravel.
  • Plastic food, making sure that they sink.

Really the sky is the limit as long as it will fit in your container and stay at the bottom. It’s also a fun way to showcase cut flowers.
