About a year and a half ago I got some gorgeous flowers in a glass container. The flowers faded, as cut flowers always do, and I had this fun container left just waiting to become something else.

Finished terrarium

I looked around the house and found that I had some aquarium gravel, dirt, river rocks, and a plant that needed a new home. Instant terrarium! I realize that not everyone has these things on hand, but chances are you could create a terrarium with zero to very few dollars with a little creativity. Start with finding a glass container of some sort that you aren’t using, then you can explore the options for the other layers. Just make sure that you have the right layers (so your plant will stay healthy).

I snapped a photo of our terrarium today. Just look at the growth!

Growth

You can barely see the little flamingos anymore! It’s amazing what some sunshine, water, and a good start, can do for a plant.
