Loving…

This ceramic stool from the Target Global Bazaar collection. I think it would be amazing on a patio with a pot of flowers sitting on top, especially something that would get long and hang down over the sides. If I could, I would get a few for the future deck, for just that purpose.

Master Bathroom

January 31st, 2008

I have been looking at what we are going to do to fix our shower.

We are going to tile the walls, and turn it into a real shower (removing the tub). Hopefully, we can redo the plumbing and add multiple shower heads. We also want to put down new floors, and a new vanity. I found a wonderful vanity, complete with a marble top, at Costco for $500! We would have to rework the plumbing there as well, since this vanity has two sinks (something we have wanted anyway) and our current vanity has only one.

The main thing I am not sure about is the floor. Right now it is linoleum that is made to look like tile. It’s not bad, but with redoing the shower and vanity it is going to need replacement. The question is what to put in it’s place. Any ideas?

Wishing for spring…

January 29th, 2008

I did a little project today to help pass the time until spring arrives.

Finished terrarium

You can read all about it on my other blog. I think it turned out really well, and it didn’t cost a single penny! It was also the perfect way to add some “spring” to my home to brighten up this dreary, and snowy, winter.

Is that you spring?

There is a joke about spring time in the mountains… meaning that we break out the shorts and sandals the second the temperatures break 50F. It seems that we are having a warming though, snow is even starting to melt, and I even saw some little furry buds on our flowering pear.

Ah, nature, your such a tease! Real spring is still so far away, and it’s all I can do to keep busy until I can get back out into the garden again. I have been making some plans though, and hope that I can accomplish them this year.

The biggest project we have in the works (other than the master bathroom) is to build a deck and finish our French door. Since putting in the door we have been using a step stool to access our yard, it works, but it’s not that stable and not very pretty either. So hopefully we can build our deck and really whoop it up in the yard this summer.

We plan to use a composite wood, like Trex. Not sure on the budget for it yet, but we want something that is going to last a long time and not need a lot of maintance. My parents put in a Trex deck almost 10 years ago and it has been awesome!

And I am going to get those kiwis planted this spring!
